Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive modern and highly effective treatment method: high-energy sound waves are introduced into the painful areas of the body. Pressure wave technology accelerates the healing process in the body by stimulating the metabolism and enhancing blood circulation to regenerate damaged tissue. Strong energy pulses are applied to the affected area. These pulses occur for short periods of time, creating micro-cavitation bubbles that expand and burst. The force created by these bubbles penetrates tissue and stimulates cells in the body that are responsible for bone and connective tissue healing.
A probe connected to the shockwave machine is applied to the affected area using light pressure, for example, the shockwave machine probe is applied to the back muscles in a patient suffering from back pain. The machine is then set up to produce waves of sound with energy pointed to the affected area, in this case, the back muscles. Sound wave energy increases blood flow to the back muscles. The muscles then release endogenous chemicals that relieve pain and inflammation.
The energy delivered by the shockwave machine produces microtrauma at the cellular level. The diseased organs and tissues respond by increasing blood flow to the areas that were exposed to the soundwaves.
When Shockwave Therapy is used, certain cellular messengers are produced and released including Substance P and the release of free radicals. Other endogenous cellular defense chemicals are part of the tissue response such as the suppression of inflammatory mediators such as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX II).
Substance P is an 11 amino acid molecule widely distributed in the central, peripheral, and enteric nervous systems of many species. Substance P functions in the CNS as a neurotransmitter involved in sensory and, most notably, pain control pathways. The release of substance P prevents exacerbated inflammation and pain.
Yes. Studies consistently revealed that the use of shockwave therapy hyper stimulates the nerve fibers causing an analgesic effect.
At Indy Vital, we utilize the most reliable and effective medical equipment available in the USA. The equipment we use is produced and manufactured by Storz Medical.
Storz is the number one supplier and educator of shockwave therapy in the United Kingdom and had a partnership with the National Institutes of Health in England in providing AWT to patients who suffer from many kinds of diseases in the fields of neurology, urology, orthopedics, and aesthetics.
The Storz shockwave machine is widely used by professional athletes and the English Institute of Sport, United Kingdom Athletics, the Welsh Rugby Union, and the “Premier League Football Clubs”.
Shockwave Therapy treatment can successfully address acute and chronic pain such as: Knee Pain, Heel Pain , Foot Pain, Ankle Pain, Hamstring Pain, Back Pain, Neck Pain, ShoulderPain , Elbow Pain, Wrist Pain and Hand Pain and much more.
The treatment is noninvasive. Gel is applied to the treatment area; pressure waves are then released through the applicator as it is moved over the treatment area.
The number of sessions needed depends on the condition that is being treated. Each treatment session takes between 10-15 minutes and can vary depending on the condition that is being treated.
Beneficial effects are often experienced after only 1 or 2 treatments and there is no downtime. Many patients report immediate pain relief after treatment. The technology has a 91% success rate as per clinical studies, patients treated report being pain free and /or have a significant reduction in pain. The non-surgical therapy for pain eliminates pain and restores mobility, thus improving patient’s quality of life.
Treatment with EPAT technology has virtually no side effects. In some cases, patients may experience minor discomfort for a few days. Patients can return to work after treatments and in most all cases there is no down time.
Most people are good candidates for EPAT treatment however patients who are pregnant, have a pacemaker or current cancer are not suitable for treatment with EPAT Technology. Your doctor will provide you with information about conditions you may have that would affect your ability to undergo treatment.
